In classical music, there's a special term, scordatura (from the Italian for wrong tuning, English plural scordaturas) for a retuning that doesn't involve restringing or modifying the instrument.
We use that term here as it's a lot more explicit than tuning. Most musicians would probably call it a retuning or something like that. Cross tuning is another term often used.
