Historic guitar tunings

Page history last edited by Andrew Alder 10 years, 11 months ago

16th Century

The guitar had four courses each of two strings. There were two tunings:

  • G - D - F# - B (Old tuning or temple viejo)
  • A - D - F# - B (New tuning or temple nuevo)

The courses were tuned in unison except for the lowest, which was tuned in octaves.

17th - 18th Centuries

See Baroque guitar.
